A puppet theater
about a beautiful but sorrowful love of a family
Love does not know its end. A familial love is
an essential element for peaceful life in this
modern society. A family is a community of love
in which each member always gives his or her love
for others if they are happy or not. This puppet
theater for children is aimed at helping them
understand the love of their parents and that
home is the happiest place in this world. Aegittongpul,
or "Poppy", is the medicinal herb that a mother
swallow used in a Greek myth to cure her baby
when it suffered sore eyes. That is why the plant
is often connected with 'the secret love of a
mother'. This theater deals with a story of Haneuri,
a child with a disability, how she came to know
the love of her mother. A
memory of childhood in sweet scenes gone by
The background of Aegi Ttongpul is a Korean town
in the 60s and 70s where you could often see people
like traveling vendors of taffy and bric-a-brac,
street entertainers called Gakseori, and fumigation
vehicle running around a town. The scenes are
no more with us today, but this theater revives
them on the stage for parents to look back on
those lovely days when they were young and for
children to better understand their parents.
A puppet theater that
brings a strong emotion to all family members
Aegi Ttongpul is a puppet theater for all family
members who want to look back on, or know more
about, the past and the present of the Korean
society, its communities and families. The theme
of a familial love is brought to the audience
in a wonderful theatrical work where the sensibility
of Korean people is combined with great visual
scenes in a moving story. It is a show that families
of all ages should not miss to have a strong emotional
experience.
